Under the Annapoorna Scheme, 10 kg of rice is provide free of cost to destitute senior citizens above 65 years of age for food security. The rice allocated by the Central Government for this Scheme is provided to the above beneficiaries free of cost by the TNCSC paying Rs.5650/- per Metric ton to the above beneficiaries as per the sub allocation of the Commissioner of Food and Consumer Protection and the rice is transported from the food corporation of India and is provided free of cost to the above beneficiaries. This amount was submitted to the District Collector in a list and a total of Rs.6150/- was received by adding Rs.5650/- per metric ton and transportation charges of Rs.500/-. Further, no sub allocation has been received for this scheme from the Commissioner of Food and Consumer Protection since the financial year 2020-2021.
The Director, Food Supply and Consumer Protection, in his letter No.E2/19399/2025 dated.25.02.2026 has Informed that the State Government has been providing the amount of rice to the beneficiaries of the Annapoorna Scheme under the Annapoorna Scheme and the amount of transportation expenses for the movement of rice in every financial year, but has now been exempted from providing funds for the Annapoorna Scheme from the financial year 2025-2026. The letter has been received starting that no sub-allocation of funds can be made to the districts under the Annapoorna Scheme from the financial year 2025-2026.
