The Government of Tamil Nadu, in its G.O.(Ms.) No.857 Public (Noon Meal G.O.No.1) dated 28.05.1982,G.O.(Ms.) 858 Public (Noon Meal G.O.No2) Dated 28/05/1982 and G.O.(Ms.) No.901 Public (Noon Meal G.O.No.3) Dated 04.06.1982 have introduced a scheme for Providing Nutritious Meal to school going Children of 2 two 9 age group w.e.f. 01.07.1982. The Scheme was extended to the school going students of age group 10 to 15 with effect from 15.09.1984.
The Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation undertakes supply of food commodities to the Noon Meal Centres with effect from 01.07.1982.
Besides Children, old age pensioner, and pregnant women are also being covered under Nutritious Meal Scheme with effect from 15.01.1983 and 07.12.1995 respectively.

The Public Distribution System is implemented through 33,222 fair price shops functioning under the various agencies are as follows:-

Further, the Government in G.O.(Ms.) No.95 Social Welfare and Noon Meal Programme Department Dated 16.06.2004 have ordered for supply of Black Bengal Gram and Green Gram on alternative Weeks under this scheme.
The Government of India have allotted 7311 M.Ts. of rice per month free of cost for 10 Months (June 2006 to March 2006) for providing meals to the students of age group 5 to 9
The rice required for providing meals to 2 to 4 and 10 to 15 age group students are supplied from the TNCSC Stock.

Dhall, Black Bengal Gram, Green Gram and Palmolein Oil required for this scheme are being purchased by TNCSC through open tender by following the instructions laid down in the Tamil Nadu Transparency in the Tender Act 1998 and Rules 2000.
As for as Iron Fortified and Double Fortified Salt is concerned, the same is being purchased directly from M/s.Tamil Nadu Salt Corporation at the rate notified by the Government.
Further, the TNCSC, is delivering the required commodities at the door steps of Noon Meal Centres by arranging transport.
The claim towards the cost of the food commodities is presented to the District Collectors and payment received.
- OLD AGE PENSIONER SCHEME: (STATE GOVERNMENT SCHEME)
As per G.O.(Ms.) No.771, Social Welfare and Noon Meal Programme Department dated 06.10.1980, the Government have introduced free supply of rice to Old age pensioners with effect from 01.11.1980.
Under this scheme, 4 Kg. of rice is supplied on free of cost to the old age pensioners who are not taking meals in the Noon Meal Programme centres, and 2 Kg. of rice is supplied for those pensioners who are taking meals in the Noon Meal Programme Centre.
The monthly supply is = 4100 Mts.
The rice required for this scheme is met from TNCSC stock and the value of rice is received from the District Collectors by presenting claim bill .
